Hi, Let me tell you a little bit more about Al.

Despite appearances, Al is a classically trained professional cellist and trombonist – many moons ago training for his undergraduate studies within the Royal Marine band service and under the tutorship of some exceptional musical heavyweights. From an early age he got to tour and perform across the world before settling in London for a Masters scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama specialising in improvisation and performance.

Since leaving his professional education (and growing longer hair!) he spent the next few years recording and touring with a plethora of incredible artists as well as becoming a key musician to a number of bands. He has recorded and performed with artists including Radiohead, Florence Welch, Bonobo, The Who, Bat For Lashes, The Cinematic Orchestra, Unkle and Sixto Rodriguez, not seeing his introduction to film until being asked to provide musical arrangements for director Richard Eyre for his Academy Award® nominated film “Notes On A Scandal”.

In 2013 he moved into film and composition for the screen more formally, starting with short form content – ‘ winning Best Score – ‘The British Horror Film Festival’, and moving into feature films and a Netflix-distributed TV series before co-founding production company Catalyst Global Media, executive producing across a number of projects and setting up the company’s interactive and music arms.

There is a signature style to how he now works – a self extemporized mix of performance and production, constructed of shape-shifting sounds, spectral spiralling strings, resonating brass and effects – creating a project-specific soundscape and a compelling world of ideas which makes each project very different from the last.
