The Brain Hack

“An incredibly clever use of the short film format” (io9)

The Brain Hack is a sci-fi thriller that was launched by Short of the Week and became a Vimeo Staff Pick. I composed and produced the original score.

Like the film’s plotting and execution, scoring The Brain Hack was all about the detail. Director Joe White wanted the film to really feel as though it could have been made by the two protagonists, Harper & Fallon. For me that meant starting with some organic sounds, which is always my signature, but developing much more of an electronic score to complement the incredibly clever plotting and to make sure that a layer of tension was very present in a sonic sense for the viewer. I’m friends with Joe anyway, which is always a good basis for a working relationship, and when it came to getting a few tracks out there it felt almost sacrilegious to take away the intricate dialogue he had crafted. There’s more to come from The Brain Hack on the music front, though, and I’m working up some pretty feisty re-mixes at the moment. Stay tuned!
